Profusion is a brand that’s slowly been popping up in places known to cater to spend savvy shoppers. Target, TJ Maxx and Five Below have all had profusion adorning their shelves, and a few months back I decided to grab some things that caught my eye. The colors, clean packaging and low price point all enticed me! After my first initial experience with Profusion, I had some mixed opinions. One hit and one miss to be exact. So when I was aimlessly walking around Target a few Saturday’s ago (this is my idea of a wild night now) I decided to snag a few more Profusion products to do a lil re-test. So welcome to “Something old something new: Profusion edition!” Let’s get into it!
In my older purchase I got a blush palette and an eyeshadow palette. I’ve long lost the receipts for these purchases, but I can guarantee they were both under $10, more than likely under $5. Immediately I was in love with the blush palette. It had a tone for every occasion, and it was the perfect border between sheer and bold, a nice buildable formula that complemented every look you could possibly go for. It’s become my everyday go-to blush palette, and it has yet to be dethroned.

The eyeshadow palette on the other hand, isn’t my most favorite thing. The range of colors is what drew me to this palette, and I was excited to experiment with colors I don’t usually spring for. A risk you run with palettes on the lower end of the price spectrum is chalky formulas. The shimmers gave pretty decent coverage, and i was happy with the payoff there. However, the matte shades are definitely chalky and not super buildable. It’s unfortunate because there are so many good color stories in this palette, and none of them are really complete without the matte shades. However, this is the PERFECT palette for someone just starting out with makeup. It’s low maintenance and inspires different color combinations to even the newest of beauty gurus.
On to the new buys! I wanted to get some different types of products to create a fuller profusion collection, so I landed on a contour palette and a lip kit! I haven’t been contouring nearly as much lately, usually opting for a heavier blush instead, but I was excited to give this one a shot. It had cooler undertones, something i look for in a palette, and three different highlights (swoon). It was sheer, meaning you could build it up to your desired snatchness. I wanted to keep it on the sheer side, so I mixed both darker shades and tried to define my cheeks and jawline so much they could cut glass! Kidding, obviously, but these shades got the job done just fine, and didn’t get muddy the way contour sometimes can when you put it over acne. The highlights were sheer as well, and they definitely give a natural healthy glow. I usually opt for a traffic stopping, jaw dropping highlight, but these could definitely be built up to get closer to that effect.
Now for the lip kit. I have some beef with the idea of a lip kit. In my mind, I shouldn’t need to line my lips when I’m using a liquid lipstick. Like, it’s supposed to dry down completely, so why do I need to worry about bleeding? And I’m not the type to overline my lips, so the concept is a little lost on me. Regardless, I was pretty content with this product. I don’t think I’ll be grabbing for it constantly, but the color is nice. The formula however, leaves something to be desired. If you’ve tried the Maybelline SuperStay Matte formula, you’re familiar with the stickiness it shares with the profusion formula. The difference is the Maybelline lippie is completely transfer proof and Profusion isn’t. It smudges off pretty easily (remember my beef with lip liners???) and definitely doesn’t stand up to the kiss test. That said, it’s another great option for someone looking to explore new shades. Also, pardon my eczema flare up conveniently placed on my chin, it was one of those weeks.
All in all, Profusion is heading in the right direction, and I see myself buying more of the brand in the future! What products have you been loving lately?
